News from Rafah

"I came here to play and fly my kite. I want to feel that I can live my life like how I used to before the war."

Greetings dear community,

We hope this message finds you in warm spirits. As long as the genocide and the occupation keep going, we won’t rest. During last days of Ramadan we initiated a kite event to offer a small window of hope for the children. Making kites and letting them fly together with the children on the beach brought some brightness to this year’s eid. Thanks to your donations, our team was able to get the materials to make this special day possible. We give thanks for your ongoing support, and for helping us to continue creating opportunities for the children to play, resist, and be children

PHRC AROUND THE WORLD

Activation at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair

April has been a month of appreciation, and Italy was at the center: Earlier this month (8-11 April), the Bologna Children’s Book Fair took place, one of the most prestigious fairs for children’s literature. As the organizers' did not take an active stance against the atrocities committed against the people in Gaza (unlike they did for Ukraine in 2022), artists took it upon themselves to bring Gaza to the fair. They organised a daily postcard drawing event and dedicated it to the phrc. In four days more than 50 artists created +200 postcards themed around children in Palestine.

The S'Empatia Prize

Also the phrc was awarded a prize by the s’ala cultural association in Sassala, Sardinia, Italy. The yearly award honors artistic and human excellence in memory of Carlo Solinas, a Sassairan promoter of the arts. The s’ala team, a community of dancers and performing artists, told us that Palestine has been on their minds this year and they decided in favour of the PHRC because of its commitment to bring relief to children through arts.

LIFE STORIES

¨In the war, my life became a process of searching for the minimum necessities of life, and for a reason to live for. We no longer see anything but condolences and sadness.¨

  • Name: Shorouq Nahed Abdulhadi Taha

  • Age: 29

  • Displaced from: North Gaza, Beit Lahia

  • Role in the Village: Facilitator

  • Life before the war: They were the best days of my life, and during the war everything collapsed.

  • My life after the war/my dreams: Every detail in my life is destroyed, and my dreams are endless. Regarding the Village, the children are the laughter despite the pain.

  • What is the Children’s Village for you: For me, the Children’s Village renewed laughter despite the pain and suffering. The Village renewed the soul of love and hope in my heart, and renewed the energy within us.
